Question: French Revolution: Women's march on Versailles -- bread?
Did the women ever get the bread that they demanded from Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette? Or was their only success to bring the king and queen back to Paris?
Answer: When the royal family were "escorted" back to Paris, Louis brought wagon loads of food from the royal storehouses to give to the people of Paris. I know for a fact that flour was one of the main items brought to Paris, which would then obviously be baked into bread, but I don't know if bread itself was actually handed out in large amounts.
