b. was painted by a male courter
c. was painted by the queen's secret lover
d. was meant to show her loving, motherly nature
i think the answer is D. but i would love a second opinion on this painting. Please and Thank you!
Answer: D, absolutely.
The painting was commissioned to repair the queen's tarnished reputation by portraying her at her best, as a loving and devoted mother.
She is simply dressed, further emphasizing the selfless image the painting is trying to potray (this rules out answer A)
As for the other two, B and C, the painting was done by Elizabeth Vigee Lebrun, a celebrated FEMALE painter at the time.
