Question: how do i find out if i am related to marie antoinette?
for all of my life my maternal grandmother who is german and whose maiden name was dethoff, would tell me that we are distantly related to the habsburgs. she also told me thats why i had a severe underbite as a child because it was the "habsburg jaw", which most habsburgs had due to generations of inbreeding. anyway, i never thought much of this, i thought granny was going crazy. she died last year though, and i want to find out if in fact i am related to marie antoinette. i started researching my family tree, but haven't gotten to far on my mother's side, i only got to 1901. how do i go about finding if i do have any relation to the habsburgs and marie antoinette?
Answer: You'd have to trace your ancestry back to the 1700's or so, then look at hers to see if you had any common ancestors. How you get past that 1901 brick wall depends. If your GG grandmother was found on the steps of an orphanage, you are stuck. If you just need to pay the subscription fee to Ancestry UK to get more data, then do it.
