Marie Antoinette Children Death

Question: Marie Antoinette's Children`?
i dnt understand it, in the movie "Marie antoinette" she had 3 children and one died but in the portraite of her n her kids there's 3 and thats after the death of one of them??
i dnt get it, how many children did she really have and who where they??
Answer: I believe she did have three and that one died. I think in the portrait you're referring to that there is also a black drape over a cradle. She was very concerned with being a good mother, more so than anything else really because of writing by Rousseau, because the aristocracy had a reputation for handing their babies off to nurses and never caring for them themselves. It would make sense then, that as a genuinely good mother, Marie Antoinette would have wanted Vigee-Lebrun to paint her deceased baby in the portrait as well in order to remember him/her. Other aristocrats would have left the child out because of the extra expense to the painter and as a gesture that a dead heir doesn't matter.
Hope that helps, analysis only, not fact : /
