Question: french monarchy - what happened to the descendants?
after england eliminated the monarchy's power, they still remained in the public's eyes (princess diana, queen elizabeth, prince charles of wales). what happened to the other monarchs whose power was abolished with the adoption of a new constitution? for instance, Louis XVI: after he and Marie Antoinette And Their Children fled the country and then were captured at bastille, what happened to their children (assuming some offspring survived, let it be a cousin or aunt or some other remnant of the royal bloodline)?
simple question: what happened to the descendants of monarchs whose countried abolished their powers (besides england).. could you cite some examples of current-day royals (w/ no power, just celebrities, really). more importantly, the French?
Answer: The only survivor of Louis XVI's family was his daughter. She escaped to England and married but had no children.
Don Luis Alfonso Gonzalo Víctor Emanuel Marco de Borbón y Martínez-Bordiú, Duke of Anjou (French citizen as Louis de Bourbon) is considered to be the head of the French Royal House by royalists who consider the renunciation of Philip V of Spain as invalid. They call him Prince Louis de Bourbon, and accord him the title duc d'Anjou (Duke of Anjou). As king, he would be Louis XX.
The present king of Spain is from the same family, a direct descendant of Louis XIV.
